Although they often thrive in completely sunny locations, hibiscus do not actually need as much direct sunlight as is commonly thought. Our own experiments have shown that 2 hours per day of direct sunlight is enough to stimulate blooming, even indoors through a window! Hibiscus will lose most of its leaves and all of its flower buds when you move it into such a situation. However, the plant should survive the winter and will leaf out in spring when temperatures warm and you can place it outdoors again.
